The focus of our class names this year is astronomy. We have chosen different celestial bodies.

Homework consists of both spelling and maths. Spelling homework is set in line with the phonics/spelling level that the child is currently working on. Maths homework is based around times tables - focusing on 2, 5 and 21 for year 2 children, and 3, 4 and 8 for year 3 children. Both are set on a Tuesday and are due the following Monday.
Maths - In maths, children will be focusing on:
- Shape (and perimeter y3)
- Fractions
- Time
- Mass and capacity
- Problem solving
- Statistics
English - Our English topics in Summer 1 include explanation texts based on the life cycle of different animals and exploring well-known myths and legends. The children will be writing their own myths too! In Summer 2, the children will be exploring and writing shape poems, writing information leaflets about Ancient Greek Olympics and writing recounts.
Science - This term we will be looking at the difference between bulbs and seeds, exploring different wildlife and looking at growing up (animals and their offspring and life cycles).
History - Our History topic this term is 'Ancient Greeks'. We will be looking at what Ancient Greece is, exploring how life was different and how we know about the past. We will be looking at Ancient Greek pottery and art, the shields that were used in battle and Greek Olympic sports.
Geography - In Summer, we will be looking at and describing where Greece is on a map and comparing the UK and Greece, including researching.
Design and Technology - Our unit of work is called 'British Inventors' where we will be exploring lots of different famous inventions. Some of these include: Alexander Graham Bell's Telephone, Charles Macintosh and Waterproof Fabric and Tim Berners-Lee and the World Wide Web.
Art - This term's focus in 'recycled art'. We will be making animal sculptures and cardboard sculptures made from lots of different recycled materials.
RE - In Summer 1, the children will be exploring what the Bible is and why is it important to Christians. They will be finding out how Christians use the Bible at home and at church, exploring the different kinds of writing that can be found in the bible, and looking at what makes a book special to different people. In Summer 2, the children will be looking at Islamic Rites of Passage; they will explore what a rite of passage is and the ceremonies in the Islamic religion.
PSHE - Our first unit this term is 'Being My Best' where children will explore how to keep healthy, celebrate their skills, identify areas for improvement and develop empathy. In Summer 2, the children will explore themes of relationships, changing bodies and puberty, keeping safe and unsafe secrets.
PE - Our Spring 1 unit of work is dance where the children will move their bodies to music and create routines individually, in partners and in groups. The children will also be completing a unit of work based on athletics. In Summer 2, the children will be learning target games as well as net and wall games.
Music - Our unit of work for this term is 'Through the decades' where children will explore music from the past 10 years. In Summer 2 we will also spend time learning our songs for our school play!
Computing - This term the children will be looking at simulations and exploring the benefits, disadvantages and uses for them. The children will also be learning how to use Google slides.
